Internship Opportunity
Internship Opportunities with MCDC
The Monroe County Democratic Committee seeks enthusiastic and responsible interns. As interns, students will have ample opportunity to learn about internal Party operations, including but not limited to press relations, message development, candidate support, campaign strategy, grassroots outreach, fundraising, opposition research and event planning. The internship provides a chance to meet and work with Democratic elected officials, Party leaders, and candidates, while working alongside the Party's professional staff.
Interns will work mainly at Democratic Committee Headquarters in Rochester, NY, during normal business hours, with the exception of some night and weekend commitments (particularly during election season). Internships are unpaid but in some cases may be taken for college credit, depending on the number of hours worked. Students may determine the number of hours and days per week they work and can set up a flexible but regular schedule to accommodate classes and other commitments.
Qualified interns should…
- Be dependable, detail-oriented, motivated, and able to work independently in a fast paced environment;
- Be interested in politics and the political process, and be knowledgeable about Democratic Party issues;
- Be a Democrat;
- Be available to work at least 8-10 hours (in at least 2-hour blocks) each week Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, and some weekends (Internships generally last at least 12 weeks or the length of a college semester.);
- Be available to attend one of two mandatory training sessions to be held during the first half of the semester
